Saturday afternoon an organization promoting same-sex interests will hold a festival on the Great Lawn by Harrah’s Casino. The Gulf Coast Equality Council, an organization whose purpose it is to further the cause, lifestyle, and behaviors of persons who prefer to be sexually active with people of the same sex, touts it to be a day “to encourage equality and celebrate diversity.” Per their website, their thirteen Board of Directors includes hairstylists, artists, and four bartenders.
According to their vice president, there will be vendors and fun things to do, and especially “things for kids.” Information booths will provide information on presumably things of interest to the group with same-sex sexual interests. Equality. Everyone for it? Who can be against it? But in what sense does this group want things to be equal? They don’t say, not specifically. Apparently, the objective is for all to see things and people who are different, as equal to anyone who is different than them. Not sure if this is it but it definitely is not a festival for equal opportunity. Or, perhaps they mean that the more equal and less different things and people are the fewer problems there will be. If all things, systems, and people were equal, presumably everyone would be happy, or at least feel happy. Maybe this is it. Anyway, the attempt to make all things equal has already been tried. In Scandinavia, long ago they leveled out the societal differences between men and women, in an effort to equalize access to, and in, all things – something perhaps this Council is aiming for though nothing in their advertising or TV interview says so. Turns out that women in Scandinavia occupy nursing positions by 20 to 1, while men occupy engineering positions by 20 to 1. This plus many other inequalities is just the opposite of what their social planners intended. And this, the result of intrinsic traits between men and women, which will never be equalized. It would be interesting to know if Harrah’s and Scarlet Pearl Casinos, big backers of this festival, have equality in all employee positions, from maintenance, to CEOs, to floor managers. Are there equal numbers of men and women, Asians and blacks, black women and white men, aged under 40 and over 40? Obese and thin? Are there equal numbers of female and male housekeepers, security personnel, and maintenance folks? Does this Council hope to make equal the inequalities in many industries? In the U.S. and Canada, Asians are over represented in many industries; same for the Jews in other industries? Does this group want to put quotas on Asians and Jews to make them equal in some way because they’re overrepresented in certain industries? Is this the equality this group seeks? We don’t know. It may be a secret. If we’re honest at heart, their aim, or hope, is really to further their perception into the minds of everyone that same-sex acts are “equal” to, or like, sexual intercourse between a man and a woman. They want us to believe and accept that the sex act performed between people of the same sex is “equal” (read, “normal”) to that of opposite-sex sex. Which, to anyone old enough to know, knows the two are as different as a garbage can is to a baby. When advocates of all things same-sex, preach about equality and inclusiveness, something that is never mentioned or spoken of is that of anal intercourse, a perversion, which of course is not “equal” to or the same as vaginal intercourse. The Merriam-Webster definition of perversion is, “any means of obtaining sexual gratification that is regarded as being abnormal or unnatural.” Speaking as a physician, the insertion of an erect penis in the anal cavity of a man is a perversion of the design and intent of sexual intercourse. In pathology, perversion is defined as a perversion of function and structure – as for example would happen with the insertion of a Coke bottle or light bulb -- the insertion of something into something for which it was not intended. The difference between anal and vaginal intercourse is stark indeed. For one, penetration occurs in an organ designed for the evacuation of human waste; for the other penetration occurs in an organ designed to deliver life, such an organ through which every festival-goer has entered this world. Those who want everything and everyone to be equal know that only through power will that be able to happen. They believe in power and ultimately will wield it in order to make all equal. We've all seen how this works. Also, festivals like this are, at core, anti-culture. If equality (not equality of opportunity) of all things is to come to fruition, it will be by force and power, which is what people who seek equality in all things believe. People seeking equality in all things seek to abolish the traditional bonds, ethnic and cultural bonds, that can’t be made controllable – like family, faith communities, and people of culture. Exclusion (as in cultural traditions) violates equality so it has to be done away with. The project to make all things inclusive and equal is anti-culture. So in what ways might we all be equal? Everyone, including the attendees of this festival, is equal in whatever is necessary for their nature and end. We are all composed of a body and soul; we are all created to the image and likeness of God; we are all gifted with understanding and free will; and we have all been created for the same end – God. In these things, we are equal. If by “equality” the sponsors, Board members, and festival-goers mean these things, and profess them to be so at the festival, then we are good. If they profess that our equality rests on our dignity as persons and not on alphabet letters, and that being equally dignified in the image of God that our behavior should reflect this dignity, and that we were all equally created for the same end – God, then indeed they would truly have something to celebrate and proclaim.
